Dental Infection Control FlagstaffSterisil System G4 Icon

Infection control in the dental office should be your highest priority when choosing a dental office. Infection controls and universal precautions protect patients and staff alike. The Flagstaff community, you, your dentist, and the dental team all benefit from rigorous infection control . The cornerstone in a good and safe dental practice is the element of trust. You should feel free to discuss this topic with Stowell, Blane or Bacon and receive a straight forward answer.

Our entire dental team follow procedures recommended by several federal agencies: the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). These measures include:

  • Sterilization of all equipment before every use
  • Gloves and face masks and face shields
  • Sterisil Water Treatment
  • Chemical disinfection of counter tops and surfaces
  • Disinfectant hand soap
  • Disposable materials
  • Rubber dam use
  • Chemical disinfection (alcohol) of hands
  • Physical barriers (disposable plastic wrap) around water sprays and suction tips.
  • A test strip is placed in every load of sterilization.  The color changes when the right temperature is achieved to kill organisms .  In this way we know for sure your instruments got sterilized.

Stowell, Blane and Bacon and their staff have taken continuing education courses in Infection Control as recently as April 2019 and assure you we will keep up with the latest in the future.

Our state of the art Sterisil water treatment system uses a series of filters and UV light to produce bacteria free water.  We use this water for all dental procedures and all sterilization procedures. We periodically test this water to assure reliability.

We sterilize all reusable equipment, including dental hand pieces. We use an autoclave, a device that kills bacteria and viruses by steam, heat and pressure. We place a paper indicator in the autoclave that changes color when the temperature necessary to kill bacteria, viruses and spores is reached, assuring us that every time we use our autoclave the job is complete.

We are very proud of how clean our office is.  In our new remodel, we specifically located our sterilization area in full view of the reception room.  You will always see proper sterile technique and a very clean office everywhere you look.

The best defense against disease is information. The more you know, the better equipped you are to make wise decisions about your health care. The more you know about our daily procedures and policies, the more comfortable you will feel.
