What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are thin shells of ceramic that bond directly to the front surfaces of the teeth. They can be an ideal choice for improving your smile and have become increasingly popular due to their simplicity and versatility.
Placing custom veneers requires a high degree of technical skill as well as attention to cosmetic detail. We place veneers routinely, and design each case individually to match and enhance the characteristics of each patient’s smile.
Will they look like normal teeth?
When bonded to the teeth, the ultra-thin porcelain veneers are virtually undetectable and highly resistant to coffee, tea, or even cigarette stains. For strength and appearance, their resemblance to healthy, white tooth enamel is unsurpassed by other restorative options.
What is the procedure like?
Usually the first procedure is to prepare your teeth for the veneers. Less than half a millimeter is taken off your enamel and then an impression is taken. It is important in most cases to do some preparation of tooth structure to allow for the thickness of the porcelain. Otherwise your veneered teeth may look bulky and fake. (This is the problem with the much advertised “Lumineers”) Dr. Bacon or Dr. Stowell then creates custom temporaries for the interim (about 2 weeks).
How will the temporaries look?
The temporaries are done differently in our office than most offices. Rather than using a pre-made template, Dr. Bacon or Dr. Stowell hand fabricates each temporary. He is frequently told by patients that all there friends and family are impressed with their new smile when it is only in the temporary stage!
How durable are porcelain veneers?
With proper care, porcelain veneers will brighten your smile for well over a decade.
Dr. Bacon or Dr. Stowell will ensure that your veneers are crafted from the highest quality porcelains and are bonded with the most advanced and proven materials available. Refraining from using your veneers as tools to open and cut things will prolong their life, and if accidental breakage or damage occurs, it is usually possible to replace only the veneer involved. A night time appliance is recommended to increase the life of your veneers.
What experience do Dr. Bacon and Dr. Stowell have with porcelain veneers?
Dr Bacon’s first porcelain veneer case was over 20 years ago. This dental patient still has and enjoys his veneers! (See Testimonial of Lett Garvey). Dr. Bacon is Flagstaff’s “Flagstaff Business News” Cosmetic Dentist of the Year. He has done over a thousand porcelain veneers in his dental career and continues to be a main referral source for local orthodontists who’s patients need veneers in conjunction with their treatment. Dr. Bacon and Dr. Stowell are great at doing “mock ups”. This is a procedure in which they ad plastic to your teeth (Temporarily) to let you actually see what you would look like before having your veneers placed. Dr. Bacon or Dr. Stowell will take a close up dental photo and can email before and after photos to you so you can show family and friends. This process greatly helps you with this important decision.
